Principal's Welcome
Welcome to the 2024-2025 school year at Scotland County Elementary. Our staff collaborated to create our vision that serves as our guide on a daily basis. As a staff we will “Work as a team to educate children to reach their highest potential.” Students are provided positive experiences to help them develop academically, socially, intellectually, emotionally, and physically. We maintain high expectations, nurture high self-esteem, and encourage positive attitudes between students and staff. It is my hope that our parents, students, staff and community will join me in making our school the heart of the community. My personal vision is to live a quote by Maya Angelou, "Do the best you can until you know better. Then when you know better, do better." We will strive to always do what is best for students. I believe that all students can learn in their own way and at their own pace. At Scotland County, we use a variety of methods and resources to provide the opportunity to learn for each student.
This year, we are excited to continue our iROAR program with our 1:1 student iPad initiative. This adventure will put one of today's most valuable technology tools in the hands of all of our students and staff. This tool will help enhance the amazing things our teachers and students are already accomplishing. We can't wait to see the places this will take us!
Scotland County R-1 School, integrates TIGERstripes, a character education program, into our school and community. TIGERstripes encourages participation from our students through class discussions, moral conversations, positive behavior reinforcements, service learning projects, ethical decision-making and Grit (the ability to work long and hard)
We expect our students to:
Be a PeaceBuilder
Act Responsibly
Be Safe
Be Respectful
Stand Up to Bullies.
Scotland County Elementary is entering Year 17 as a Professional Learning Community School (PLC). Through the PLC process, our faculty makes decisions by keeping in mind what is in the best interest for our children. Instruction is driven by data that is analyzed by our staff. Collaboration, teamwork, and effective communication enables our staff to make the best decisions for our children. Through the PLC process our staff will continuously ask themselves five questions:
What do we expect our students to learn?
How will we know when students have learned?
How will we respond when students experience difficulty in learning?
How will we respond when students already know key concepts, skills, and content?
Based on collaborative analysis of the results of our efforts, what can we do to improve student learning?
Scotland County R-1 Elementary also utilizes funding as a School Wide Title I building. A school wide program is designed to ensure that all students, especially those students most in need, demonstrate proficient and advanced levels of achievement on State academic achievement standards. A school wide program is built upon school wide reform strategies rather than separate, add-on services. Therefore, our school wide program will:
Use its Title I allocations to upgrade the entire educational program of the school in order to raise academic achievement for ALL students at the school. No longer are students labeled “Title I,” but instead all the students and all the teachers at the school use Title I dollars to improve the school’s entire academic program.
Collect, analyze, and use data to monitor progress continually and improve teaching and learning for ALL students.
Will help to make parents and other community member’s full partners in learning by involving them in planning, problem solving, and conveying a consistent message of support and high expectations. Parents also sign a “compact” – a written commitment – with the school that specifies their roles in helping children learn at home, endorsing teachers’ high expectations, and helping to make the school a safe and caring place for learning.
The hard work of both our students and staff has been exemplified through the "Distinction of Performance" status that was awarded to our school from 2004-2011. Since 2013, the Scotland County R-1 District has been "Accredited in Distinction in Performance." Consequently, on the past four Missouri School Improvement Program (MSIP) reports we have scored 94.3%, 99.3%, 99.3% and 98.9% on the MSIP Report. This report looks at student achievement, subgroup achievement, attendance rates, graduation rates, and college and career preparedness. We are currently awaiting the most recent MSIP scoring, but know that our high expectations help us to push our students to great success.
We take great pride in our students and our school. We strive to maintain a safe and supportive learning environment in which all students can learn. It is our goal to work as a team to help all students build confidence and grow to their fullest potential by spending their time with us. Our students are our most precious resource for our future and we take our role in that very seriously. Through our open door policy, we encourage our parents and community to visit us and see the great things we have happening at SCR-1. Please contact the administration, teachers or staff if you have any questions or concerns.
