Chanel Oliver - K-6 Music
What we're learning...

Kindergarten
In Kindergarten, we are working on learning how to use our four voices (speaking, shouting, whispering, and singing) and when it is appropriate to use each voice. We are also learning different ways that we can move to music.

1st grade
In first grade, we are learning how to tell the beat of the music from the rhythm of the music as well as how to count "ta" and "ti-ti." We will also be learning how to sing in different dynamics and tempos.

2nd grade
In second grade, we are learning how to name high and low notes (So and Mi) and how to sign the solfege for them. We have also practiced playing rhythm against the beat and playing the beat against the rhythm. We recently learned what a patriotic song is and how we should act when we sing a patriotic song. We sang "My Country 'Tis of Thee" to practice what we learned.

3rd grade
In third grade, we are focusing on how music organized (the form) and singing in different dynamics and tempos.

4th-6th grade
The 4-6th graders are working on their note-reading and rhythm skills. A few of the classes have enjoyed playing Musical battleship on the Smartboard to review the notes on the staff.

Music Websites for Kids

These websites may be accessed at home for some fun music practice. Some websites are more challenging than others and may not be suited for all age levels. Some are just plain fun, and your child might enjoy spending leisure time "roaming" on these sites.
