Elementary Guidance

The counseling program at Scotland County R-1 Elementary is designed to help all children as they grow and develop.  All students, teachers, and parents have access to counseling services at the school.  A student or parent may request a private conference at any time by calling the school and scheduling an appointment.  Teachers may also feel a child needs counseling and may request services with parental/guardian permission.  Individual conferences often focus on normal developmental concerns of children in an elementary school such as: forming and maintaining friendships, school work habits, family concerns, sibling issues, and improving behavior at school.  In addition to private conferences with children, the counselor conducts small group sessions for children which focus on specific concerns.  Typical topics for units in a small group session include friendships, understanding our feelings, divorce, death, academic improvement, and improving individual self-esteem.  Besides individual and group guidance, Mrs. Fromm conducts weekly classroom sessions in all grades kindergarten through sixth.  This is the time your child receives guidance in their classroom setting.  The Elementary Guidance Curriculum topics along with SCR-1's CHARACTER/plus word of the month and the In-Class Guidance Schedule are listed below.
